I will probably regret this Sunday night but I'm choosing character actress Swinton over the prestigious Blanchett and the SAG-awarded Dee. While double nominees hardly ever leave the ceremony emptyhanded, I think the fact Blanchett is already a winner will lure voters to reward Swinton instead. Equally, I think the Academy members will generally simpathize much more with Swinton (who represents many of the not so well-known faces in Hollywood) than the veteran, but not as respected Dee. In the end, I think Tilda Swinton is the kind of hardworking, respected thespian that all branches could easily embrace and support. |
